As is known to all, Extruded Graphite is a crystalline form of carbon, Iron ink to dark grey. Its density is of 2.25 g/cm. It is soft with soapy feeling and can conduct electricity. Its chemical property is inactive and can bear the corrosion, not easy to react with acid and alkali. When heated strongly in air, it will burn and generate carbon dioxide. Strong oxidizer will oxidize it into organic acid. When used for antifriction agent and lubricating materials, it can make crucible, electrode, batteries, and pencil lead and so on. High purity graphite can be made into use of the nuclear reactor neutron moderator. Because it is often referred to as carbon or graphite, it has been always been mistaken for lead before.
Graphite is a kind of mineral, usually produced in metamorphic rock. Graphite is one of the elements carbon allotropes, with each carbon atom of the peripheral attached to the other three carbon atoms, whose arrangement in multiple hexagonal honeycombs, with weak van Waals force in each layer. Because each carbon atom will emit an electron which is able to move freely, graphite belongs to the conductive body. Graphite is one of the softest mineral, opaque and greasy, possessing the corrosion resistance.
Natural Flake Graphite is formed at high temperatures. The most widespread one is the metamorphic deposit of graphite. Due to its special structure, it has many special features, such as high-temperature resistance, electric and thermal conductivity, unctuosity and plasticity and thermal shock resistance and so on. The melting point of graphite is 3850 + 50 ℃, and the boiling point is 4250 ℃. Even if firing through ultra high temperature arc, the weight loss is still very small, so is the coefficient of thermal expansion.
The conductivity of Amorphous Graphite nonmetalliferous ore is one hundred times higher than normal one and the thermal conductivity is even higher than steel, iron, lead and other metal materials. Its heat conductivity coefficient will lower with the temperature increasing, even at high temperatures, it will come into insulator. The lubrication performance depends on the size of the graphite flake graphite, the smaller scales, the greater the coefficient of friction, and the better the performance of lubrication. Besides, graphite has good chemical stability at room temperature, which can bear the acid corrosion.
Because of the good properties of high temperature resistance and high strength, it is mainly used in the manufacture of graphite crucible and Graphite Gasket in the metallurgical industry, and conducting material and so on.
